About The Rose and Rae
How it started…
I’ve always loved to read and shop at bookstores (With a TBR to last until my next lifetime). I love the feeling you get when you walk into a space and know you are welcomed, you have found your people.
That’s why I created The Rose and Rae. To help good people find good books - and each other.
Happy Reading
What’s in a name?
When it came time to name the bookstore it was a difficult process. What would pay respects to the nature of the work I was trying to do and create the type of atmosphere that would encourage readers to stay. Ultimately, I chose The Rose and Rae - and it carries some significant meaning for me.
The Rose carries dual meaning. Paying homage to The White Rose, a Nazi resistance group in Germany, and my amazing grandmother who served as a nurse in London during WWII and fought fascism with every fiber of her being.
The Rae is a family name. Connecting generations of women and reminding us that we are never alone.
Together, they serve as the focal point of my bookshop - a space to find each other, to create community, and to remind ourselves that we stand on the shoulders of those that have fought this fight before.
